Everyone here at Leankor is celebrating some great news.
Recently, the team attended and competed in the Energy New Venture Competition, hosted and sponsored by the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, as well as Innovate Calgary and Encana.
And after spending the day pitching an impressive (and intimidating) judging panel on the Leankor visual workflow management system, we bested more than a dozen other startups to take home the top prize of $50,000 in cash and services.
While the recognition and reward for the team’s hard work is exciting, this is just another milestone in Leankor’s journey toward helping more companies and organizations streamline and grow leaner and more efficient.
Please see the press release below for more details on our big win.
Leankor Wins Big at Energy Sector Entrepreneur Event
Startup gains traction with $50,000 prize in emerging tech competition
Calgary, Alta. February 10, 2015 — One of Calgary’s own startups beat out 13 other ambitious upstarts to take home the top prize in the Energy New Venture Competition.
On January 26, Leankor’s enterprise-ready workflow management system bested its fellow entrepreneurial competitors in the Dragon’s Den-style pitching event. And earning a nod from the judging panel came with a $50,000 first prize comprised of $25,000 cash and $25,000 worth of in-kind services.
“The oil and gas sector is undergoing a significant evolution, and now is the time for innovations that allow organizations along the entire value chain to quickly adapt,” says Emilio Bernabei, CEO of Leankor. “The $50,000 prize will help Leankor deliver its workflow automation tool to even more organizations to assist them in running leaner operations and streamline their workflows. We are very proud of our accomplishments to date, and we are honoured by the first-place finish at the Energy New Venture Competition.”
Bernabei says that Leankor plans to reinvest a majority of the $25,000 cash prize in targeted marketing and sales initiatives to help the company reach even more organizations with its lean management tools. The $25,000 worth of in-kind legal fees, courtesy of Davis LLP, will also allow Leankor to secure additional funding.
The Energy New Venture Competition was created by the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, as well as Innovate Calgary, and is supported by Encana. It serves as a platform to boost and provides exposure for emerging energy technology companies and concepts.
